Proverbs Chapter 19
In Proverbs chapter 19 verses 3,17, and 18 stand out to me.

Pr 19:3 A man's own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the LORD.
This proverb describes a very common situation. A person makes very poor choices that result in painful consequences, then blames God for their difficult situation.

I have often said that in most cases the life we now have has been built by our choices.  There are exceptions to this of course, some people, through no fault of their own, have great difficulty, but in a general sense it can be proven and measured that choices will produce future results, good or bad.

Our choices are the building blocks of our life, and we cannot blame God if what we have built brings us pain.

Pr 19:17 He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.

When we are generous to those in need, we, “lend to the LORD”.  Meaning we finance what God wants to do. When we give our finances to bless people and finance the kingdom of God, we are saying to God, “please use my money to accomplish your purpose”.
God sees this as an investment, and He pays dividends. He is teaching us that we need not put our faith in money because God is our source, not our bank accounts.

Whenever we help a needy person or give in the offering to support the work of the church and the kingdom of God, we are saying to God that we trust Him more than out money.
In turn God gives back to us that we have given, plus an added blessing – maybe more money, or maybe things that money can’t buy.

Pr 19:18 Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.
This truth is one that some parents have learned the hard way. The amount and kind of discipline a child grows up with will shape their character. If we teach them what is right and what is wrong and build a sense of morality within them it will serve and protect them all of their lives.

But if we do not teach and discipline them when they are little it will create a character within them that will be more likely to have trouble with authority and disrespect for people, and if it ends in their death, we will have had part in it by our unwillingness to train and discipline them when they were young.
